Astral Radiance Chase Cards: Is the $199 Machamp V Alt Art Worth Grading?

Astral Radiance (SWSH10) released in English in late May 2022 (May 28 per Serebii, May 27 in our catalog). The most valuable card in it is not a Charizard. It is the Machamp V alternate full art 172/189 at $199.29 raw in our catalog as of October 25, 2026, and a Trainer Gallery Starmie V follows at $125.19. This guide prices the chase list and says which cards deserve a grading fee.

Astral Radiance Raw Prices on October 25, 2026

The Machamp V alt art is worth 2.1 times the Origin Forme Palkia V alt art and 28.6 times the Machamp VMAX from the same set ($6.96). Below the top five, nothing in the main set clears $30. Prices are TCGplayer market prices from the ZeroPop catalog, pulled October 25, 2026.

Card Rarity Raw market Grading call
Machamp V 172/189 Alternate Full Art $199.29 Grade a clean copy
Starmie V TG13 Trainer Gallery $125.19 Grade a clean copy
Origin Forme Palkia V 167/189 Alternate Full Art $93.87 Grade a clean copy
Origin Forme Dialga V 177/189 Alternate Full Art $61.37 Borderline
Hisuian Sneasler V 175/189 Alternate Full Art $37.28 Borderline
Hisuian Lilligant V 163/189 Alternate Full Art $28.01 Skip
Galarian Moltres V TG20 Trainer Gallery $19.02 Skip
Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR 208/189 Secret Rare (gold) $11.82 Skip
Ice Rider Calyrex V TG14 Trainer Gallery $10.37 Skip
Machamp VMAX 073/189 VMAX $6.96 Skip

The set numbers 189 cards, with secret rares printed past the total (the gold Palkia VSTAR reads 208/189) and a 30 card Trainer Gallery, according to Serebii. Our catalog lists the gallery as its own set page. We did not pull graded sale prices, so the grading column weighs raw price against the fee, not a PSA 10 comp. Current fees are in our PSA grading cost breakdown.

Machamp V Alt Art: The $199 Card Nobody Predicted

At $199.29 raw, the Machamp V alternate full art costs more than any other card in the set, and the Pokemon on it is a Machamp carrying a stack of plates through a market square. The artwork is the draw: a busy illustrated street with a girl crouched over flowers and a man in a green shirt in the background.

Machamp V alternate full art 172/189, Astral Radiance, ZeroPop community scan
Machamp V, 172/189. ZeroPop community scan, graded 8.

The one community scan we found reads 8, and one scan proves little. What it does show is the problem: the card has a silver border and a full art holo texture, so edge whitening and corner dings are visible from arm's length. At $199 raw, a clean copy is an easy submit. A copy that scans below a 9 on corners or edges is a sell raw, because a PSA 8 will not pay back a fee plus shipping at that price. Check centering before anything else (method in card centering explained).

Starmie V TG13 is $125.19 raw, the second most valuable card in the set and 18 times the Machamp VMAX. The art shows a trainer lounging on a pool float with Starmie above her, and Trainer Gallery cards carry a TG prefix and sit outside the 189 count. A listing that says "Starmie V" without the number can mean the regular V.

Our three community scans of it read 9, 9 and 9. Three scans is a small sample, but none reached a 9.5, and the glossy pool artwork gives surface lines nowhere to hide. Grade a copy that scans clean under a lamp. Skip any copy with a print line crossing the water.

Origin Forme Palkia V and Dialga V Alt Arts

Palkia V 167/189 sells for $93.87 raw and Dialga V 177/189 for $61.37, which makes Palkia worth 1.5 times Dialga.

Origin Forme Palkia V alternate full art 167/189, Astral Radiance, ZeroPop community scan
Origin Forme Palkia V, 167/189. ZeroPop community scan, graded 9.5.

Palkia is the safer submission. The best of our scans reads 9.5, and the pale cream artwork with a rainbow holo border shows corner wear clearly, so you can judge a copy before you pay. Dialga V has the same border but a darker, saturated sky, and our best scan also reads 9.5. At $61 the fee eats a large share of the gain, so grade Dialga only if the copy is flawless.

Sneasler, Lilligant and the Rest of the Alt Arts

Hisuian Sneasler V 175/189 is $37.28 and Hisuian Lilligant V 163/189 is $28.01. At these prices a fee is a large share of the card's value, and we have no PSA 10 comp to say a slab pays it back.

Our one Sneasler scan reads 7, which is the opposite of encouraging. Keep both as binder cards unless you pulled them yourself and they look perfect. The gold Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR (208/189) is $11.82, a skip.

The Skip List: Machamp VMAX and Every Card Under $12

Skip the Machamp VMAX. At $6.96 it is the same Pokemon as the $199 alt art, but a regular VMAX finish, and a grading fee costs more than the card. Our best scan reads 9.5 and it would not change the call.

Radiant Greninja ($3.52), Luxray V ($2.96) and Darkrai VSTAR ($2.48) are play cards. Grade none of them.

Should You Grade Astral Radiance Cards? The Verdict

Grade the Machamp V alt art, the Starmie V and the Palkia V alt art, and only copies that scan clean. Dialga V is a coin flip at $61, and everything below $38 is a skip. Among the cards we priced, only five clear $35 raw, and the rest is bulk.

Frequently Asked Questions

When did Astral Radiance come out?

English Astral Radiance released in late May 2022: May 28 according to Serebii and May 27 in our catalog. It is the tenth set in the Sword & Shield numbering, hence SWSH10.

What is the most valuable Astral Radiance card?

The Machamp V alternate full art, 172/189, at $199.29 raw in our catalog on October 25, 2026. The Starmie V from the Trainer Gallery is second at $125.19, ahead of the Origin Forme Palkia V alt art at $93.87.

Is the Machamp V alt art worth grading?

Yes, if your scan shows even borders and clean corners. Our only community scan reads 8, so check your own copy carefully, because a card that grades 8 does not cover a fee at this price.

Only Starmie V ($125.19) clearly is. Galarian Moltres V ($19.02) and Ice Rider Calyrex V ($10.37) sit where a grading fee costs as much as the card.

How many cards are in Astral Radiance?

189 numbered cards, plus secret rares numbered past 189 and a 30 card Trainer Gallery. Because secrets print past the total, the gold Palkia VSTAR reads 208/189.

Is the Palkia VSTAR worth anything?

The gold secret version, 208/189, is $11.82. The Origin Forme Palkia V alt art is $93.87, so the alt art is worth about 7.9 times the gold VSTAR.
