How it works

Two photos, about a minute.

01

Photograph it

Two photos, the front and the back, from your phone or your laptop. Flat surface, even light, no glare across the holo.

02

We read it

Your card is scored on the same four axes a human grader uses, then checked against what copies are actually selling for. It takes about a minute.

03

You decide

The full grade comes back unblurred: overall, all four sub-grades, and what a copy at that grade tends to sell for. Then you decide whether a submission is worth the fee.

What you get

All four sub-grades, not just a number.

Every card is scored on four independent axes from 1 to 10. You see each one, so you know where the card loses points rather than just how many it lost.

Corners

Whitening, fraying, and softening at all four points. This is the single most common reason a card misses Gem Mint.

Edges

Chipping, nicks, and rough factory cuts along all four sides, scored separately from the corners because they wear differently.

Surface

Scratches, print lines, dents, staining, and whether a foil still carries its pack-fresh sheen.

Centering

How evenly the image sits inside the border, measured as a left/right and top/bottom ratio on both faces.

Those four roll into one overall grade, anchored to the worst axis rather than averaged, which is why a single ruined corner still caps the card. The full grading guide walks through the exact math.

Straight answer

What this is, and what it is not.

What it is

  • A pre-screen you run before you spend money, so you know what you are sending in.
  • A read on all four axes plus an overall grade, on the same BGS-style floor math the real companies use.
  • A rough sense of what a copy at that grade sells for, from recent comps.
  • Free for one card, with no account, so you can find out whether any of this is useful to you.

What it is not

  • Not a PSA, BGS, or CGC grade. Only those companies can slab a card, assign a serial number, and put it in a population report.
  • Not a guarantee. A grader with the card in hand can see things a photo does not carry.
  • Not a replacement for submitting. It is the step before it, the one that stops you paying $25 or more to learn a card was an 8.
  • Not unlimited. One card is free without an account; more than that needs a free account and a plan.

If the grade comes back strong and you want to know whether submitting actually pays, run the numbers in the slab-or-sell ROI calculator, or browse community-graded cards to see how other copies of the same card scored.

Questions

Free card grading, answered.

Do I need an account?+

No. Upload the front and the back, and the full grade comes back unblurred with no sign-up, no email, and no card details. An account only matters if you want to keep the card: signing up (still free) saves the grade, the photos, and the value over time to your collection so it is there on every device. If you never sign up, you still see the grade.

Is it really free?+

Yes, and there is no credit card anywhere in it. To be precise about the offer: one card is free with no account. After that, a free account includes 2 grading scans a month plus unlimited card identification, and paid plans start at $3.99 a month if you are grading in volume. Nothing auto-charges and nothing is hidden behind a trial.

How long does it take?+

About a minute from the moment you upload the second photo. Most of that is the grading itself, which runs on our servers rather than on your device. Keep the tab open and the result appears on the page.

What do I need to photograph?+

The front and the back of one card. Lay it flat, use bright even light, and avoid glare across holo and foil, which is the most common cause of a surface score that reads lower than the card deserves. A modern phone camera is more than enough resolution.

Do I need to download an app?+

No. This runs in the browser you are already using, on a phone or a desktop. ZeroPop also has native iOS and Android apps with a guided scanner, portfolio tracking, and set checklists, but nothing about the free grade requires them.

Which cards work?+

Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, and sports cards across baseball, football, basketball, hockey, and soccer. The card type is detected automatically and the matching grading rubric is applied. Vintage and Japanese cards are supported.

Is this an official PSA, BGS, or CGC grade?+

No, and it is worth being blunt about that. ZeroPop is not a grading company. It predicts what those companies are likely to assign so you can decide what is worth submitting. Only PSA, BGS, or CGC can issue a real grade, encapsulate the card, and give it the resale premium a slab carries.

How accurate is it?+

The four sub-grades are calibrated against thousands of real submission results. For most modern cards the predicted grade lands within half a point of the final grade, and centering is the most reliable of the four because it is measured rather than judged. Photo quality is the biggest variable you control.
