Lost Origin Chase Cards: Is the $851 Giratina V Alt Art Worth Grading?

Lost Origin (SWSH11) released in English on September 9, 2022, with 196 numbered cards plus a 30 card Trainer Gallery. Four years on, the Giratina V alternate full art 186/196 sells for $851.13 raw in our catalog as of October 9, 2026. The next card down, the Aerodactyl V alt art, is $202.95. This guide prices the chase list and says which cards deserve a grading fee.

Lost Origin Raw Prices on October 9, 2026

Two cards carry this set: together they add up to $1,054.08, and nothing else in the set clears $30. Prices are TCGplayer market prices from the ZeroPop catalog, pulled October 9, 2026. Counts differ by source (Bulbapedia lists 247 cards, our catalog holds 230 rows), because secret rares and the Trainer Gallery are counted differently. The 196 numbered cards are not in dispute.

Card Rarity Raw market Grading call
Giratina V 186/196 Alternate Full Art $851.13 Grade a clean copy
Aerodactyl V 180/196 Alternate Full Art $202.95 Grade a clean copy
Giratina VSTAR 201/196 Secret Rare $28.72 Marginal
Giratina VSTAR 212/196 Secret Rare $18.07 Skip
Giratina V 185/196 Full Art $17.55 Skip
Gengar 066/196 Holo Rare $5.14 Skip

We did not pull PSA 10 sale prices for this post, so the grading column weighs the raw price against the fee, not a quoted graded comp. Current fees are in our PSA grading cost breakdown.

Giratina V Alt Art: The Reason This Set Still Matters

At $851.13 raw, the Giratina V alternate full art is 48 times the price of the regular Giratina V full art in the same set ($17.55). It is card 186 of 196, illustrated by Shinji Kanda per the card's own credit line. The card text reads Abyss Seeking (look at the top 4 cards, put 2 in your hand) and Shred for 160.

Giratina V, 186/196. ZeroPop community scan, graded 9.5.

Look at that scan. The artwork is dark, busy and runs to the card edge, so whitening on the bottom border and on the four corners is the first thing a grader sees. Our community copy reads 9.5, and at this price the gap between a 9.5 and a 10 is the whole decision.

At $851 raw, an $80 round-number fee is under 10% of the card's value, so a clean copy clears the bar on almost any realistic grade. A copy with visible corner wear does not. Scan the front and back before you box it, and check centering with the method in card centering explained.

Aerodactyl V Alt Art: The Sleeper

Aerodactyl V alt art 180/196 is $202.95 raw, about one quarter of the Giratina price and 7 times the price of the best secret rare in the set. Illustrator Nurikabe's coastline scene is bright and full of detail, which helps: pale surface lines are easier to spot on this art than on Giratina's dark one, so you know what you hold before you pay.

Aerodactyl V, 180/196. ZeroPop community scan of a PSA 9 slab, graded 9.

Our community has scanned three Aerodactyl V alt arts at 9.5, 9 and 8.5. That spread is typical of a full-art holo with a rainbow etch over the whole face. It is also a reminder that a PSA 9 on a $200 card (the slab above) is a fine result, not a failure. Whether it beats your raw price depends on the graded comp you check the day you submit.

The Secret Rares: Giratina VSTAR Is the Only Real Decision

Giratina VSTAR comes in two secret rare printings, 201/196 at $28.72 and 212/196 at $18.07. Neither justifies a submission unless a graded comp is more than three times raw, which we have not seen for this set. Raw and sleeved is the right place for both.

The same artwork also appears in the Galarian Gallery of Crown Zenith, so a Giratina VSTAR scan in our feed may be the Crown Zenith copy. See the Crown Zenith chase cards guide for that version.

The set page at SWSH11 Lost Origin Trainer Gallery carries the 30 TG cards (Pikachu, Gengar, Snorlax, Charizard and others), but our catalog holds no market price for any of the Trainer Gallery rows we checked. Without a price there is no break-even to run, so we are not calling any of them. Below the top two cards, the rest of the set is bulk: Gengar 066/196 is $5.14, Kyurem VMAX is $2.29, and Giratina VSTAR 131/196 is $2.64.

Should You Grade Lost Origin Cards? The Verdict

Grade two cards, and only clean copies. The Giratina V alt art and Aerodactyl V alt art are the only Lost Origin cards where a fee is a small slice of value. Everything else priced under $30 loses money after a fee, which is why we say skip.

The risk on both alt arts is the same: full-bleed art leaves no border to absorb miscut centering and shows whitening early. If you have a pack-fresh copy in a sleeve, scan it first.

Frequently Asked Questions

When did Lost Origin come out?

English Lost Origin released on September 9, 2022. The Japanese version, Lost Abyss, came out earlier on July 15, 2022, per Bulbapedia. It is the eleventh main Sword & Shield series expansion.

How many cards are in Lost Origin?

The numbered set is 196 cards, plus a 30 card Trainer Gallery. Totals including secret rares range from 217 to 247 depending on the source, and our catalog lists 230 rows. Use 196 when you read a card number like 186/196.

What is the most valuable Lost Origin card?

The Giratina V alternate full art, 186/196, at $851.13 raw in our catalog on October 9, 2026. The Aerodactyl V alt art is second at $202.95. No other card in the set is above $30.

Is the Giratina V alt art worth grading?

Yes, if the copy is clean. A scan should show centered borders and no whitening on the corners. Our top community scan reads 9.5. If your own scan shows wear, sell the card raw.

We could not confirm that. The catalog has Trainer Gallery rows such as Pikachu VMAX TG29 but no market price attached, so we do not quote one. Check a sold listing before you pay a grading fee on any of them.

Is Giratina VSTAR worth grading?

No. The two secret rare versions sit at $28.72 and $18.07, and the regular 131/196 is $2.64. Their prices do not leave room for a fee.
