Silver Tempest Chase Cards: Is the $505 Lugia V Alt Art Worth Grading?
Silver Tempest (SWSH12) released in English on November 11, 2022, and four years later one card still carries it. The Lugia V alternate full art 186/195 sells for $505.76 raw in our catalog as of October 11, 2026. The next card down, the Unown V alt art, is $30.31. This guide prices the chase list and says which cards deserve a grading fee.
Silver Tempest Raw Prices on October 11, 2026
The Lugia V alt art is worth 16.7 times the second most expensive card in the set, and nothing past the top two clears $20 except the regular Lugia V full art. Prices are TCGplayer market prices from the ZeroPop catalog, pulled October 11, 2026.
| Card | Rarity | Raw market | Grading call |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lugia V 186/195 | Alternate Full Art | $505.76 | Grade a clean copy |
| Unown V 177/195 | Alternate Full Art | $30.31 | Skip unless it is flawless |
| Lugia V 185/195 | Full Art | $18.22 | Skip |
| Lugia V 138/195 | Regular holo V | $12.59 | Skip |
| Lugia VSTAR 139/195 | VSTAR | $8.06 | Skip |
| Reshiram V 172/195 | Full Art | $6.72 | Skip |
| Serperior VSTAR 210/195 | Secret Rare (gold) | $6.55 | Skip |
The set has 195 numbered cards per the numbering on the cards themselves (Lugia V alt art is 186/195) plus a 30 card Trainer Gallery, according to Serebii. Our catalog holds 225 rows for the main set. We did not pull graded sale prices, so the grading column weighs raw price against the fee, not a PSA 10 comp. Current fees are in our PSA grading cost breakdown.
Lugia V Alt Art: The Only Card That Pays for a Submission
At $505.76 raw, the Lugia V alternate full art costs 28 times the regular full art Lugia V in the same set ($18.22). The card credits illustrator kowayoo, and the artwork is a near monochrome storm with Lugia in gray and black, which is exactly why it grades the way it does.

Two of the community scans we pulled for this card read 10, and one of them is the PSA 10 slab above (cert ending 4662). Dark art hides surface scratches, and the holo etch is a vertical rainbow band that catches the light, so a flaw is easy to miss on a quick look. Whitening on the corners shows against the dark art, so tilt the card under a lamp and scan front and back before you pay.
At $505 raw, any fee in the range we list is a small slice of value, which makes a clean copy an easy submit and a copy with edge chipping an easy sell raw. Check centering first: the art runs to the edge on every side and a 60/40 shift is visible at a glance (method in card centering explained).

Unown V Alt Art: The Pretty One That Does Not Pay
Unown V alt art 177/195 is $30.31 raw. It is the only other card in the set above $20, and the only one that is not a Lugia. Our community scan reads 9.5.

Skip it unless the card scans flawless. With a $30 raw price, a fee takes most of the value, and the graded premium would have to be several times raw to break even. We have no graded comp to promise that, so the call is no.
The Gold Serperior VSTAR and Everything Else: Sell Raw
Serperior VSTAR secret 210/195 is $6.55 raw. It is a gold card, illustrated by PLANETA Mochizuki, and gold finishes show scuffs on the bottom corners first.

Two of our three Serperior VSTAR scans read 9 and one reads 8, so even a good copy tends to stop short of a 10. At $6.55 that does not matter, because a fee would cost several times the card. The same goes for Lugia VSTAR ($8.06), Reshiram V full art ($6.72) and Alolan Vulpix VSTAR ($2.77). Keep them in a binder.
The Trainer Gallery: No Prices, No Calls
The Silver Tempest Trainer Gallery lists 30 cards, including a Rayquaza VMAX at TG20 and a gold secret Rayquaza VMAX at TG29. Our catalog holds no market price for any of the Trainer Gallery rows we checked, so there is no break-even to run and we are not calling any of them. Check a sold listing on the day you submit.
Should You Grade Silver Tempest Cards? The Verdict
Grade one card: a clean Lugia V alternate full art. Every other card priced in this set is $30.31 or less, and at that level a fee eats the margin. Opening packs of this set, the realistic goal is one alt art hit and a pile of bulk.

Frequently Asked Questions
When did Silver Tempest come out?
English Silver Tempest released on November 11, 2022, per Serebii and our catalog. It is the twelfth set in the Sword & Shield numbering, hence SWSH12.
What is the most valuable Silver Tempest card?
The Lugia V alternate full art, 186/195, at $505.76 raw in our catalog on October 11, 2026. The Unown V alt art is second at $30.31, a gap of about $475.
Is the Lugia V alt art worth grading?
Yes, if your scan shows even borders and clean corners. Two of the community scans we found for it read 10. If you see whitening or a visibly off center print, sell raw.
Is Lugia VSTAR worth grading?
No. The regular Lugia VSTAR 139/195 is $8.06 raw, so a fee costs more than the card. Our best community scan of it reads 9.5, which does not change that math.
Are the Silver Tempest Trainer Gallery cards worth anything?
We cannot say from our data. The catalog has the rows (Rayquaza VMAX TG20 and TG29, for example) but no market price attached, so we do not quote one.
How many cards are in Silver Tempest?
The numbers run to 195, with a 30 card Trainer Gallery on top per Serebii. Secret rares like Serperior VSTAR are numbered past the printed total (210/195), so read the denominator as 195.
